Malachi House II Appoints Darrell Rivers as Interim Executive Director
LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
Malachi House II Appoints Darrell Rivers as Interim Executive Director
Malachi House II has appointed Darrell Rivers as Interim Executive Director, effective immediately.
This leadership transition follows the recent passing of James Michael Speight, Founder and Executive Director of Malachi House II. Mr. Speight’s vision and dedication helped shape the organization’s mission of restoring the lives of men overcoming addiction. His legacy of compassion, faith, and commitment to helping men rebuild their lives continues to guide the work of Malachi House II.
Mr. Rivers brings both experience and long-standing service to the role. A graduate of The Malachi House, Inc., he completed the program in October 2009 after making the life-changing decision to seek help for addiction.
Mr. Rivers recalls a pivotal conversation with his young son. When he told his children he needed to leave to get help, his son pleaded, “No Daddy, don’t leave.” Mr. Rivers replied, “Let this junkie go so your father can come back.” His son answered, “Only if my father comes back.” That moment became a defining turning point in Mr. Rivers’ journey toward recovery and restoration.
For the past 14 years, Mr. Rivers has served as Intake Coordinator and Vocational Program Manager for Malachi House II, overseeing the daily operations of the administrative office and working closely with program leadership. In this role, he has guided incoming participants through the intake process while serving as a key point of communication with participants’ families, attorneys, medical providers, and probation and parole officers.
Prior to joining Malachi House II, Mr. Rivers held leadership and supervisory roles with city and county governments in South Carolina. He also credits much of his leadership development to the mentorship of the late James Michael Speight, who invested in him as both a mentor and leader during his years of service with the organization.
Mr. Rivers describes his leadership approach as compassionate, transformational, and rooted in servant leadership. His passion for the work comes from a deep personal calling to see men set free from the bondage of addiction and empowered to live sober, successful lives.
As Interim Executive Director, Mr. Rivers’ vision is to continue advancing the legacy and mission of Malachi House II — restoring the lives of men and equipping them to move forward with hope, stability, and purpose.
Malachi House II is a faith-based residential program serving men recovering from life-controlling issues such as drug and alcohol addiction, providing structured support focused on recovery, character development, vocational preparation, education, and life-skills training.
